Organized Labour has called off its planned strike, which was scheduled to begin on Monday, July 15, 2024. However, the group has given the Management of SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage with them on the management of their pensions.
The decision to call off the strike comes after SSNIT indicated that it had terminated its plans to sell 60% shares of some four hotels, which had been a point of contention. At a media briefing in Accra, led by the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, workers were advised to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Dr. Baah stated that the labor unions will continue to engage with the board of SSNIT to resolve all outstanding issues amicably. The planned strike was initially called in response to SSNIT’s decision to sell 60% shares of some four hotels, which Organized Labour opposed.
However, with SSNIT’s termination of the sale, the labor unions have agreed to call off the strike and engage in further discussions. The one-month ultimatum is aimed at ensuring that SSNIT Management engages with the leadership of Organized Labour to address their concerns.
Dr. Baah emphasized that the labor unions are committed to resolving all outstanding issues with SSNIT amicably. The media briefing was attended by representatives from various labor unions, who all expressed their commitment to engaging with SSNIT Management.
