Judge Removed from Young Thug’s Racketeering Trial Amid Misconduct Allegations

Story Highlights
  • Judge Ural Glanville removed from Young Thug's racketeering trial amid misconduct allegations
  • Allegations stem from private meeting with prosecutors and key witness on June 10
  • Case reassigned to Judge Shukura Ingram to preserve public confidence in judicial system

The judge overseeing the long-running racketeering trial against Young Thug has been removed from the case. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville was accused of misconduct by lawyers for Young Thug and co-defendant Deamonte Kendrick, who requested his recusal earlier this month.

The lawyers alleged that Judge Glanville held an “improper” meeting with prosecutors and a key witness on June 10. While Glanville maintained that the meeting was proper, Judge Rachel Krause ordered the case to be reassigned to a different judge, citing the need to preserve public confidence in the judicial system.

The case will now be overseen by Judge Shukura Ingram, according to Rolling Stone. Krause stated that she had “no doubt” that Judge Glanville could continue presiding fairly over the matter but acknowledged that the meeting “could have – and perhaps should have – taken place in open court”.

Young Thug’s lawyer, Brian Steel, stated in an emailed statement to AP that his client is innocent and seeks to clear his name through a fair trial.
