- WAEC emphasizes their commitment to fairness and upholds strict marking procedures
- Marking schemes are meticulously reviewed
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has refuted claims that it manipulates exam results for political gain.
Mr. John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, firmly denied these allegations. He emphasized that WAEC prioritizes fairness and upholds strict marking standards.
This comes after an anonymous examiner, known as Teacher Kofi, alleged on a radio show that examiners are pressured to be lenient during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Mr. Kapi assured the public that there is no attempt to influence results for any government.
He explained that marking schemes are meticulously reviewed and agreed upon to ensure consistency. Examiners are also instructed to strictly follow these guidelines.
