Minority Walks Out as Parliament Greenlights New Ministers

Story Highlights
  • Parliament has approved two new Ministers
  • The Opposition staged a walkout just before the vote
  • The Opposition had boycotted the vetting process

Parliament has given the green light to Herbert Krapah as the Minister of State for the Energy Ministry and Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo as the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.

However, the approval process was marred by controversy as the Opposition staged a walkout just before the vote. They argue that President Akufo-Addo’s nominations are expanding the government unnecessarily, which could strain the national budget.

Earlier, the Opposition had refused to participate in the vetting of the proposed ministers by the Appointments Committee, citing similar concerns.

In response, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin dismissed allegations that the government is inflating its size during a period of economic difficulty.
