BBC acquires new K-pop talent series from X Factor producer

The BBC is set to launch a brand new reality series, Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience, this summer on BBC One and iPlayer. The show follows five UK boys as they travel to Seoul to undergo the intensive K-pop training process, aiming to become a successful K-pop group.

The six-part series, produced by Moon&Back Media, SM Entertainment, and Kakao Entertainment America, offers a unique glimpse into the K-pop industry. The band will undergo rigorous choreography, vocal, and performance training, as well as life coaching, and immerse themselves in Korean culture.

Each week, K-pop expert Hee Jun Yoon will critique their progress. The show marks the first time cameras have been allowed behind the scenes at SM Entertainment.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, said: “This series will showcase what it takes to make it in K-pop. It promises to be an exciting prospect for audiences.”

Nigel Hall, co-founder of Moon&Back Media, added: “This show combines the best of K-pop and global entertainment production. Forming a British boy band and launching them on the global stage is a world-first and unmissable television.”

Daniel Jang, CEO of SM Entertainment, anticipated a “palpable synergy” between SM Entertainment’s K-pop expertise and Moon&Back Media’s experience in music-genre TV shows, yielding “exceptional content” that will captivate pop music fans worldwide.
