Shrek 5 Officially Set for July 1, 2026 Release

DreamWorks Animation has officially announced a July 1, 2026 release date for the highly anticipated Shrek 5, marking a 16-year gap since the previous installment, Shrek Forever After, hit theaters in 2010. A teaser for the upcoming film confirms the return of the beloved original voice cast, including Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as Donkey.

Walt Dohrn and Brad Ableson will co-direct the film, with Dohrn having previously worked on Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After. Eddie Murphy revealed in June that he had already recorded some of his voice acting for the film and confirmed that a Donkey spinoff is also in the works.

“I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out, and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well,” Murphy told Collider.

The Shrek franchise has expanded to include spinoffs like Puss in Boots and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, featuring Antonio Banderas.

The original cast also includes John Lithgow, John Cleese, and Jennifer Saunders. Shrek 5 is set to release on July 1, 2026, with the Donkey spinoff expected to follow after its completion.
