The upcoming third installment in the Deadpool series, Deadpool & Wolverine, has been classified by the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO) as a film that will run for 127 minutes and 45 seconds, making it the longest film in the franchise.
The IFCO has flagged the film for strong scenes of violence, drug use, sexual content, and foul language, which is consistent with the expectations of Deadpool fans. This two-hour-plus run time surpasses the first Deadpool film’s 108 minutes and is slightly longer than Deadpool 2’s 119 minutes.
The extended length of the film is likely due to the introduction of X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which requires some explanation. The film brings back the Time Variance Authority from the Loki TV show to explore how Deadpool can cross universes. Owen Wilson reprises his role as TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius, alongside Matthew Macfadyen as the agency’s fixer Paradox.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that Hugh Jackman will appear as a new variant of Wolverine, distinct from the character who died in Logan. Fans can expect numerous cameos from X-Men movie characters, including Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth and Aaron Stanford as Pyro, as well as a rumored appearance from Jennifer Garner reprising her Daredevil role as Elektra.
Director Shawn Levy expressed hope that the film will surprise audiences and break molds in unexpected ways, stating, “We had no idea it would be this unique moment where people are asking what the MCU means anymore… Can it surprise us? Can it break molds in ways that we don’t expect? We certainly hope that this movie is an answer to those questions.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release in cinemas on July 26, while the first two Deadpool films are currently streaming on Disney+.
