US President Biden Slams Russia’s ‘Brutal’ Missile Strikes In Ukraine
- Biden condemned Russia's recent missile strikes
- Biden vowed to enhance Ukraine's air defenses
- Russia opposes Ukraine's membership
US President Joe Biden has strongly condemned Russia’s recent missile strikes on Ukraine, which resulted in at least 38 deaths and 190 injuries, including at a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
Biden vowed to enhance Ukraine’s air defenses and announced that new measures would be revealed at the upcoming Nato summit in Washington.
The summit, marking Nato’s 75th anniversary, will focus on defense and deterrence in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend, urging Western allies to accelerate air defense deliveries.
Nato’s secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, believes Ukraine’s membership is inevitable, but it won’t happen until after the war.
Russia opposes Ukraine’s membership, fearing Nato’s presence near its borders. The UN Security Council will also meet to discuss the situation, with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres joining Western officials in condemning Russia’s actions. Kyiv has declared July 9 a day of mourning following the deadly attacks.
