Green Light for Atta-Mills Family to Hold 12th Anniversary Ceremony at Asomdwoe Park
The government of Ghana has approved a request by the Odumna Ebusua, the family of late President John Evans Atta-Mills, to hold commemorative ceremonies at Asomdwe Park in accordance with traditional customs.
This approval follows a letter dated June 21, 2024, from Chieftaincy Minister Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, responding to a request made by Nana Enfiua III, Kyidomhemaa of the Odumna Ebusua, Ekumfi Traditional Area, in a letter dated May 28, 2024.
The letter from the Minister states, “…The Chief of Staff has granted approval to the Odumna Ebusua of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills to use Asomdwe Park on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, to perform the traditional and customary rites as requested for the 12th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony of the late President. May the departed soul of your beloved son continue to rest peacefully in the Lord’s bosom.”
In addition to the July 24th event, the family plans a series of activities beginning on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Asomdwe Park, commemorating what would have been the late President’s 80th birthday. The ceremonies culminate on August 10, 2024, marking 12 years since President Atta-Mills was laid to rest following his sudden death on July 24, 2012.
The family expresses gratitude to the Ghanaian government for their support in honoring the legacy of their late son and clansman. The public is invited to join in these events, celebrating the life and contributions of President John Evans Atta-Mills.
Leading figures such as Nana Enifua III, Kyidomhemaa of the Odumna Ebusua, Ekumfi Traditional Area, and Ebusuapanyin Kobina Biney, Head of the Odumna Family, will guide their community in remembering President Atta-Mills, whose maternal lineage traces back to Ekumfi Otuam, as documented in historical records.
