GES Implements Self-Placement System for Newly Qualified Teachers
- This program allows 12,720 graduates to choose their preferred schools
- The GES aims to tackle language barriers and financial strains
- The self-placement system utilizes the existing GES portal that graduates used for applications
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a self-placement system for 12,720 recently graduated teachers who have successfully completed their training at colleges of education and passed licensure examinations.
Following the call for employment applications on May 11, 2024, the GES received over 20,000 submissions from qualified candidates. Out of these, 12,720 applicants were selected in the initial phase.
These teachers are required to access the Ghana Education Service portal from July 5 to July 31, 2024, to participate in the self-placement process.
During a press briefing at the GES headquarters in Accra on July 4, Eric Nkansah, Director-General of GES, highlighted that the self-placement initiative aims to overcome various challenges faced by teachers, including language barriers and financial constraints.
“The self-posting model allows newly trained teachers to select regions where they can communicate effectively in the local language of their choice, fostering a conducive teaching and learning environment,” he explained.
Nkansah further emphasized, “Teachers will have the opportunity to choose schools close to their families, thus benefiting from local support networks.”
He added, “Instructions for accessing the platform and selecting preferred schools will be provided on the GES portal, similar to their application process.”
