“I choose Value Over Nudity and Wealth in Movie Roles” – Adjetey Anang

Renowned Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang has taken a firm stance on the types of movie roles he will accept, prioritizing his personal values over lucrative offers.

In an interview on TV3’s New Day on June 26, 2024, Adjetey Anang revealed that he will refuse roles that involve nudity, violent content, or intimate situations, regardless of the financial gain. “There are characters that I may not play. Somebody else would play it… Nudity, nude scenes, and very graphic, intimate scenes. That’s the thing. It’s not about the money,” he emphasized.

Adjetey Anang’s stance is influenced by the impact of movie roles on actors’ personal lives. He cited a experience of his colleague, Fred Amugi, whose portrayal of a criminal in a movie led to a food vendor in Kumasi refusing to serve him.

The actor also highlighted the challenges of being perceived by society, noting that many Ghanaians struggle to distinguish between an actor’s real-life character and their on-screen roles. “And that’s how serious people take it. They can’t draw a line between the craft and the actor,” he remarked.

Adjetey Anang’s comments come as he prepares for the premiere of his new movie, ‘The Groomsmen’, alongside colleagues Daniel Delong and Peter Ritchie. The movie is set to hit the screens on July 12 at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra Mall.
