A tragic incident has unfolded in the Aowin Municipality, where three friends, Ransford Osei Coffie, Johnson Adu, and Alex Obeng, have been implicated in alleged robbery and rape. The Enchi District Magistrate Court has remanded Coffie and Adu into prison custody for two weeks, while Obeng has been granted a GH¢50,000 bail with one surety.

According to the prosecution, led by Detective Police Chief Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, the accused persons committed the crime on January 2, 2024, at about 1:30 am, at the residence of the complainant, Stephen Amihere, and his fiancée, Christiana Mensah. Coffie and Adu allegedly subjected Amihere to severe beatings, robbed him of various items, and forcibly had sex with his fiancée. Obeng is said to have provided security for the duo during the crime.

The prosecution revealed that Obeng’s involvement was limited to providing information and security, and he did not participate in the crime. However, he is currently in police custody due to his inability to meet the bail conditions.

The court has denied the accused persons’ pleas and has scheduled the next hearing for Monday, July 8, 2024. The prosecution has prepared a duplicate docket and forwarded it to the Attorney General’s office for study and advice.
