Richard Jakpa Refutes Allegation of Receiving 50% of €2.37m Ambulance Contract Payment
- Richard Jakpa categorically denied receiving approximately half of the €2.37 million paid by the government
- Jakpa emphasized his company actually incurred a significant financial loss on the contract
- He stressed that the terms and costs were meticulously reviewed over several years
Richard Jakpa, a key figure in the ongoing €2.37 million ambulance contract trial, has denied claims that his company received approximately half of the total government payment to Big Sea under the contract.
During cross-examination by Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame on July 2, 2024, Jakpa firmly rebutted the assertion, labeling it as false.
The Attorney General alleged that Jakpa’s company received nearly half of the total contract amount, suggesting this as the reason for alleged non-delivery of genuine ambulances.
Jakpa countered these claims, stating unequivocally that his company suffered a significant loss on the contract and refuting any involvement in such financial improprieties.
He emphasized that the contract underwent rigorous scrutiny and approval processes by various government bodies, including Cabinet and Parliament, over several years.
Jakpa clarified, “The prosecution’s allegation is completely false,” highlighting that the contract’s terms and costs were set and reviewed extensively by governmental entities before final approval.
