Musician Christopher Nelson, aka Mr Logic, has appeared before a Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding an American citizen of $21,000 and GHC48,000. Nelson is accused of collecting the monies under the pretext of securing a resident permit for the American, Khori Edward Lweis, but failed to do so.
Nelson pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretence and was admitted to bail of GHC400,000 with three sureties. The court also ordered him to deposit his passport at the Court’s Registry and report to the police every two weeks.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, Nelson collected the monies in May 2023, claiming it was for a resident permit and taxes payable to the government. However, the complainant discovered the transaction was not legitimate and reported the matter to the police.
Investigations revealed that the cost of the resident permit was only $1,000 per person, and the accused person failed to appear before the court despite several invitations.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing, with the prosecution directed to file disclosures and witness statements for Case Management.
“I am innocent, and I will prove it in court,” Mr Logic said in a statement.
