Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the party has established robust measures to counter the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) attempts to rig the 2024 general elections.
Kwetey emphasized that the current government’s desperation to maintain power is unprecedented, surpassing even the levels seen during former President John Kufuor’s tenure. He labeled the current administration as the most egregious perpetrator of election result manipulation, citing the 2008 elections as an example.
Despite the NDC’s efforts, Kwetey revealed that they nearly lost the election in the strong room of the Electoral Commission, underscoring the need for vigilance and preparedness. He reiterated his belief that President Akufo-Addo will spare no effort to manipulate the election outcome, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
Kwetey compared the current NPP administration to Kufuor’s government, stating that the former was less desperate and more willing to accept defeat. He stressed that the NDC’s machinery and leadership must be top-notch to counter the NPP’s tactics, which he believes will stop at nothing to win.
Kwetey expressed concern over the Electoral Commission’s role in the election, citing past experiences where results were altered in the strong room. He urged the NDC to remain vigilant and prepared to ensure a free and fair election, emphasizing that the party will not tolerate any attempts to rig the election. Kwetey concluded by emphasizing the importance of the 2024 election, stating that it is a matter of democracy and the future of Ghana.
