Accra College of Education Students Suffer as CETAG Strike Continues
- CETAG strike halts academic activities at Accra College of Education
- Students left to study independently, plead for government to meet lecturers' demands
- Strike affects all 46 public Colleges of Education nationwide
The ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has brought academic activities to a grinding halt at the Accra College of Education, leaving students to fend for themselves.
The indefinite strike, which affects all 46 public Colleges of Education nationwide, is a response to the government’s delay in implementing the National Labour Commission’s Arbitral Award Orders and negotiated service conditions.
CETAG is demanding the payment of one month’s salary to each member for additional duties performed in 2022 and the application of agreed rates of allowances payable to public universities to deserving CETAG members.
Students at the college, who are bearing the brunt of the strike, have expressed their frustration. “We are not happy about the strike because it is affecting us a lot,” a student said. “Some courses need lecturers’ guidance, so the strike is affecting us a lot. We are pleading with the government to meet the lecturers’ demands.”
The strike has left students studying independently or in groups, without the guidance of their lecturers.
