“Ursula Warns: Stop Campaigning for Vice President Slot, It’s Disrespectful to Bawumia”

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, has spoken out against lobbying to be the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The Communication Minister emphasized the importance of allowing Dr. Bawumia the freedom to choose his running mate without external pressure.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful stated that lobbying for the position is disrespectful and undermines Dr. Bawumia’s decision-making authority. She emphasized that the running mate position is an appointed one and should not be lobbied for or gambled for.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful urged the public to desist from putting pressure on Dr. Bawumia to nominate his running mate, adding that the flagbearer should be given the space to decide who can best partner him. She noted that while people may speculate her name as being interested in the position, she has never approached anyone expressing interest.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful stated that if Dr. Bawumia thinks she can assist him, then why not, but she has not contacted anyone to put her name forward. She reiterated that the flagbearer should be given the space to choose who he thinks can best partner him, and it would be great if a female is chosen, as she had advocated for eight years ago.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s comments come amid intensified calls for the NPP’s flagbearer to nominate a female running mate, with names like Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and Naa Torshie being mentioned. The Communication Minister’s stance is seen as a departure from the usual political maneuvering, as she prioritizes respect for the flagbearer’s decision-making authority over personal ambition.
