The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has urged the government to provide teachers with well-deserved remuneration, emphasizing their critical role in delivering quality education. Addressing a durbar at Begro, he stressed that adequately motivating teachers is essential for them to perform and improve learning outcomes.
The Okyenhene highlighted the importance of quality teachers, stating that even with infrastructure and laptops, learning outcomes would suffer without motivated teachers. His call comes as teacher unions negotiate with the government for improved conditions of service, including deprived areas allowance, extra assessment allowance, online and teaching support allowance, and upward adjustment of Continuous Professional Development allowance.
The Okyenhene acknowledged the significant investment in free Senior High School Education but emphasized the need to address challenges hindering its success. He stressed that teacher motivation and fair compensation are crucial for achieving quality education, urging the government to promptly address remuneration challenges.
The Okyenhene also advised traditional leaders to lead with humility and respect, using their authority to serve humanity. He spoke against worsening social vices and indiscipline in communities, urging parents to be responsible and uphold cultural values.
The royal durbar was part of activities lined up for Okyenhene’s 25th anniversary of enthronement, organized by the Benkum Division, the second-largest within the Akyem Abuakwa State. The Benkum Division comprises over 300 towns and villages, with the Benkumhene commanding the left wing of the army from his permanent residence in Begoro.
The Okyenhene promised that a substantive chief would be enstooled soon to maintain peace and development in the area, addressing the Chieftaincy dispute at Begro. The Okyenhene’s call for better remuneration for teachers has been widely supported, with many acknowledging the critical role teachers play in shaping the future of Ghana’s youth.
