Private Security Firms Face Crackdown on Unauthorized Uniforms

The Interior Ministry has issued a stern warning to private security agencies, urging them to cease the use of unauthorized uniforms or face legal consequences.

In a recent statement, the Ministry emphasized the need for compliance with regulations governing the attire of private security organizations. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in enforcement actions under the law.

According to the Ministry, two individuals have already been apprehended for violating these regulations, highlighting its commitment to regulating the private security sector.

“The Ministry of the Interior advises all private security agencies to refrain from using unauthorized uniforms, as non-compliance will lead to arrest by the police and subsequent legal action,” the statement cautioned.

The Ministry’s efforts are aimed at ensuring strict adherence to laws governing private security operations, as outlined in the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (LI.1571) and the Police Service Organizations (Amendment) Regulations, 1994 (L.I.1579).

Despite recognizing the vital role played by private security agencies in Ghana, the Ministry remains steadfast in upholding regulations that safeguard national security.

“We acknowledge the essential contribution of private security organizations in complementing national security efforts. Nevertheless, the Ministry is resolute in enforcing regulations designed to protect the safety and security of all citizens,” the Ministry affirmed.

Moving forward, the Ministry pledges to collaborate with the private security industry to foster a secure environment for all Ghanaians.
