Ghanaian businessman and music producer, Opoku Oppong Kwabena, popularly known as Kobe, believes the establishment of Grammy Africa presents a significant opportunity for Ghanaian musicians to win the coveted award.
In an interview, Kobe argued that an African version of the Grammy’s will allow Ghanaian musicians to submit more tracks, tailored to the African sector. He disagreed with the notion that an African-exclusive Grammy will deprive the scheme of its honor and prestige.
From a business and opportunity perspective, Kobe noted that bringing the Grammy to Africa will open doors for industries in hospitality and creative arts. “We can do it. We are doing great music. We have great sound, great engineers. It’s easy, and it’s gonna happen eventually. Now that they are bringing the Africa edition, I believe more doors will be opened for our musicians.”
Kobe, who joined his father in Japan 15 years ago, is now a business partner in the popular lounge and dining bar, R2 Supperclub, in Tokyo. He believes the Grammy organization has noticed the rise of Afrobeats and wants to tap into its popularity, benefiting businesses and artists alike.
