The Ahafo Regional Executives of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) have expressed concern over the growing trend of Muslim students in Senior High Schools distancing themselves from the core values of Islam.

In an interview with Adom News, Nuhu Alhassan, Ahafo Regional President of GMSA, lamented the alarming rate at which Muslim students neglect their religious teachings at the senior high school level. “When students transition from JHS to SHS, many abandon the values of our region and pursue their own interests, which is dangerous,” he warned.

To address this issue, GMSA-Ahafo has launched a series of initiatives, including a quiz competition centered around Arabic, aimed at sensitizing students to the importance of upholding Islamic values regardless of their educational level.

However, the Deputy Chief Imam of Ahafo Region, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Unus, and Suraiya Abdullah, Deputy President of GMSA-Ahafo, bemoaned the lack of support from Muslims and others for events promoting the teaching of core values at schools.

“The power of knowledge and adherence to our values is crucial for our growth and development,” they emphasized.

The quiz competition, which brought together six senior high schools, aimed to encourage students to embrace their faith and cultural heritage.
