Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, revealed today that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, will submit his chosen running mate to the party’s National Council for approval by the end of June.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Nana Akomea confirmed that Dr. Bawumia will make the announcement before the month’s end, although the campaign team is still in the dark about the identity of the selected candidate. This move is seen as a crucial step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections.
Nana Akomea emphasized that the party has given Dr. Bawumia the liberty to take his time and conduct all necessary consultations to ensure the right choice. “We told him to take all the time he needed to make all the consultations that he felt he had to do,” Nana Akomea explained. “Considering Dr. Bawumia’s election as flagbearer was only six months ago, it’s not too late. We’re confident that he will make an informed decision.”
When pressed for details on the running mate’s identity, Nana Akomea maintained that the team is still in the dark. “We don’t know who will be announced, but an announcement will come before the end of June,” he reiterated. This has sparked intense speculation among party loyalists and political analysts, with many naming potential candidates.
The announcement is expected to have significant implications for the party’s strategy and fortunes in the upcoming elections. As the NPP gears up for a competitive contest, the choice of running mate is seen as a critical factor in bolstering the party’s chances.
