Renowned gospel singer Nacee, born Nana Kwaku Osei, shared his thoughts on the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Nacee believes that his victory in the Artiste of the Year category would significantly boost the awards’ public traction and reach.
The ‘Aseda’ composer explained that his contenders have had multiple chances to win the slot in previous editions, making it less newsworthy if any of them were crowned winners this year. “In fact, the Ghana Music Awards will have more reach or exposure if I win Artiste of the Year because it’s normal if any of my contenders win, and it’s not news. Nacee winning Artiste of the Year is where the news is,” he emphasized.
Nacee also revealed that he has had a prophecy of granting an interview to the BBC after winning the award, which would provide an opportunity to mention Charter House, further adding to the publicity of the event. Confident of clinching the award, Nacee stated, “I’ve said that if I win Artiste of the Year, the BBC will interview me, and I’ll mention Charterhouse.”
With four nominations in this year’s TGMA, including Gospel Artiste of the Year, Gospel Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, and Artiste of the Year, Nacee believes he deserves to win all categories. However, he emphasized that not winning would not be the end of his career. “It shouldn’t be the end of Nacee.”
Nacee faces stiff competition in the Artiste of the Year category from King Promise, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, and 2023 winner Black Sherif. The Telecel Ghana Music Awards will take place on Saturday, June 1, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
