A vicious rainstorm struck Tumu on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, leaving a trail of destruction. Over 300 residents were displaced after nearly 100 houses were destroyed.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) reported widespread damage, including downed power lines and uprooted trees. The storm’s fury even ripped off the roof of a Goil filling station.

Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Fuseini Yakubu Batong, expressed concern about the situation, especially considering it’s the first rain of the season. He visited storm-damaged schools and assured residents that the extent of the damage would be assessed and reported to the region for assistance.

Mr. Batong emphasized the importance of community support during this difficult time and commended residents who helped victims during the storm. He stated that ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected is a top priority. NADMO and other partners are working tirelessly to provide essential services to displaced families.

According to Madam Hadoho Mary Danlardi, NADMO’s acting Municipal Director, a total of 328 people were displaced, including women, men, and children. Additionally, four schools, two churches, and two people were injured in the storm.

NADMO advises residents to ensure proper drainage within their communities to prevent future flooding.
