Takoradi MP Commissions State-of-the-Art Polyclinic for New Residents
A brand new, state-of-the-art polyclinic has been commissioned in New Takoradi, courtesy of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah. The 60-bed facility, financed through the MP’s personal resources, aims to bring quality healthcare closer to the people of New Takoradi and its environs.
The modern health facility features a range of amenities, including a laboratory, consulting rooms, pediatric wards, an obstetric ward, male and female surgical wards, and lavatories. According to Mr. Darko-Mensah, the motivation behind this project is the importance of good health, which he believes is the most paramount aspect of life.
The MP noted that the existing CHPS Compound in the area was inadequate to serve the over 4,000 population of New Takoradi, a fishing community in Takoradi. He recalled a gas explosion incident at GHUMCO a few years ago, which highlighted the need for a more modern and efficient healthcare facility.
Mr. Darko-Mensah, who is also the Western Regional Minister, appealed to the chiefs and people of New Takoradi to take good care of the facility, so it can serve generations yet unborn. He emphasized the importance of being citizens, not spectators, and working together to ensure the success of the facility.
The Western Regional Director of Health, Yaw Ofori Yeboah, praised the minister’s initiative, stating that it aligns with efforts to ensure access to quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all. He urged the community to cooperate and support the health personnel who will be posted to the facility.
The MP also announced that an ultramodern youth center with offices for the New Takoradi community is currently under construction and will be completed and commissioned soon.
