Tragedy in South Tongu: Rice Farmer Shot Dead on His Farm

A tragic incident unfolded in the serene rice fields of Yorve, near Agordome, as Mr. Sina Peter, a prominent rice farmer renowned for his Tongu Rice brand, met a sudden and violent end. Reports indicate that Sina, a respected figure in the agricultural community, was gunned down on his farm by unidentified assailants.

Sina Peter, estimated to be in his mid-40s and known as the proprietor of the Sinagro Guest House in Sogakope, tragically succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the Sogakope District Hospital. The fatal encounter occurred on Monday, May 20, around 7:00 PM, while Sina and his laborers were in the midst of harvesting rice.

According to Mr. Johnson Kobby Amedzo, a close friend of the deceased and the Assembly Member for Xikpo-Agbagorme Electoral Area, the assailants opened fire while the workers were busy packing harvested rice into a vehicle. In the chaos that ensued, one of Sina’s workers, identified as Kafui, was also shot and has since been hospitalized at the Ho Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

Tragically, Sina rushed to investigate the source of the gunshots and was met with a fatal shot himself, adding another layer of sorrow to the already grim situation.

Authorities, including the Sogakope Police, have launched investigations into the incident, although details remain scarce. Speculation looms regarding a possible motive, with whispers of land disputes between the deceased and certain individuals.

As the community grapples with the loss of a beloved farmer and entrepreneur, Mr. Amedzo has urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Mr. Sina Peter, a former Marketing Manager of Brazil Rice, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and four children.

His body now rests at the Sogakope District morgue, awaiting an autopsy to shed further light on this tragic event.
