“My Arrest Was a Blessing in Disguise” – Hopeson Adorye

The Director of Special Operations for the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has described his recent arrest and court appearance as a “blessing in disguise.” Adorye was arrested and charged with publishing false news after making claims on an Accra-based radio station that dynamites were detonated in the Volta Region during the 2016 General Elections.

In a viral video released after his bail on Thursday, May 23, Adorye stated that his arrest had provided significant political mileage for him. “I am doing fine. In fact, I was so happy. What happened yesterday, it will take someone 25 to 30 years to get this glory. You are the one who thinks it was the other way around. It gave me a political mileage and it will take someone 30 years to get such a mileage,” he said. “In fact, the whole world was discussing me,” he added.

The Dansoman Circuit Court granted Adorye bail at GH¢20,000 with two sureties. Despite the legal troubles, Adorye appears to be embracing the attention, seeing it as an opportunity to boost his political profile.
