Parliament Announces “Democracy Cup” Featuring Hearts Of Oak And Kotoko

Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s premier league giants, will clash in a special “Democracy Cup” to mark the 30th anniversary of the country’s Parliament.

The match, set for Friday, July 5th, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, will be preceded by an exhibition game between Members of Parliament and former Black Stars players.

The winner of the Hearts-Kotoko duel earns an additional reward: a chance to face off against D.C. United, a Major League Soccer club based in Washington, USA.

This “Democracy Cup” is one of several activities planned to celebrate the Parliament’s 30th anniversary, a milestone signifying Ghana’s return to democracy in 1992.

“This cup is a way to spice up the celebration,” said Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, acknowledging the support of partners who proposed the event.

Other celebratory activities include parliamentary sessions, debates, peace walks, and fun games.
