A tragic three-vehicle collision occurred on the Adukrom-Somanya highway in the Eastern Region on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m. The incident resulted in the instantaneous death of two women, a sports teacher and a national service person from Yilo Krobo Senior High School.
The deceased were traveling in a Toyota Corolla with the registration number GR 901-21, which collided head-on with a pickup truck belonging to the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, registered GV 1263-20. Another individual sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital in Somanya.
The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, but sources suggest that the pickup truck attempted a wrongful overtaking on a curve, leading to the head-on collision with the Toyota Corolla. Police personnel promptly arrived on the scene to begin their investigation and assisted residents and travelers in transporting the injured to the hospital.
Bernard Owusu Agyeman, who was driving a third vehicle involved in the accident, along with a Chinese national passenger, miraculously escaped unhurt. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue, while police continue their search for the driver of the government truck involved in the crash.
