President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting media freedom in Ghana, highlighting the significant strides made in promoting media freedom during his administration.
Addressing the 3rd African Media Convention on Friday, May 17, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the vital role a free and independent media plays in any democratic society.
He noted that a free media is the cornerstone of an informed citizenry, providing a platform for diverse voices and fostering accountability and transparency in governance.
President Akufo-Addo stated, “In Ghana, we have made significant strides in promoting media freedom, and we remain committed to protecting and enhancing it.”
He encouraged media institutions to embrace innovation and new technologies to adapt and thrive in the rapidly evolving digital age.
The President emphasized that innovation is key to reaching wider audiences, telling compelling stories, and providing accurate and timely information to citizens.
He also highlighted the critical role the media plays in promoting environmental sustainability, raising awareness about environmental issues, and advocating for sustainable practices.
President Akufo-Addo commended the organizers of the convention for their dedication and hard work, and wished participants fruitful discussions and a successful convention.
