Nana Oye Bampoh Sues Ex-Husband Tony Lithur for Defamation

Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Bampoh, previously known as Nana Oye Lithur, has filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband, Tony Lithur, citing defamation and reputational damage.

In a legal move that highlights the ongoing turbulence surrounding their divorce, Nana Oye Bampoh is seeking substantial damages totaling US$1.5 million.

The lawsuit stems from what she claims are false and malicious statements made by Tony Lithur in the divorce petition he filed in May 2018, after their 27-year marriage came to an end.

Allegations within the petition portrayed Nana Oye Bampoh as negligent, adulterous, and professionally unethical, damaging her reputation both nationally and internationally. She asserts that these accusations have incited public scorn and undermined her credibility as a human rights lawyer and former government official.

Nana Oye Bampoh further asserts that Tony Lithur’s purported claims have triggered official investigations into her conduct, exacerbating the harm caused to her personal and professional life.

She contends that the publication of these allegations has subjected her to public humiliation, personal attacks, and professional setbacks.

Accusing Tony Lithur of a deliberate campaign to tarnish her image, Nana Oye Bampoh is pursuing legal recourse to obtain compensation for the damages inflicted upon her reputation and livelihood.

Her lawsuit also seeks a retraction and apology to be disseminated across various social media platforms and news outlets.

This legal action underscores the acrimony surrounding the dissolution of their marriage and the ensuing fallout, marking a significant chapter in the ongoing saga between the former couple.
