“Kwahu Town” To Spring Up In Asanteman

Just like Fante New Town, Anloga, and many other ethnic towns in Asanteman, the Kingdom will soon witness the christening of a settlement called ‘Kwahu Town’ by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. This is in response to a request from the people of Kwahu in the Eastern Region who are domiciled in his Kingdom

It would be recalled that His Majesty hosted a durbar for 43 ethnic groups domiciled in his land at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, a testament to the hospitality of Asantes.

While paying homage to Otumfuo at the event, Asanteman Kwahuhene Nana Akwasi Abankwa requested that their settlement be named after their town in the Eastern Region as is seen in Anloga, Fante New Town and other places.

“We see Fante New Town, Moshie Zongo and others and we would like to request that such a place be allocated to us. We also plead for Kwahu Town in Asanteman.”

The request has received a favourable response from the King. It was announced by Juabenhene Nana Otuo Sereboe II while delivering the welcome address at the climax of the 25th Anniversary of Otumfuo on May 12, 2024.

“The request has been heeded and there will be Kwahu Town within Asanteman.”

Asanteman since time immemorial has opened its doors to all non-Asantes and proven to be more than home to such groups with most being bestowed lands by Asantehene and having their places of settlement named after their ethnicity.

Such places in Asanteman include Dagombaline, Fante New Town, Anloga, and Zongo. These ethnic groups are led by chiefs recognized by the Asantehene.

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on numerous occasions has expressed his highest regard for these groups. According to him, Asanteman was built together with such people and thus his utmost regard for them.
