In Senegal, a Boeing 737-300 plane veered off the runway, resulting in injuries to at least 10 individuals, with four of them sustaining serious injuries.
The incident unfolded during the early hours of Thursday as Air Senegal’s HC 301 flight was departing for Bamako, Mali, according to a statement from Dakar’s Blaise Diagne airport.
While the pilot sustained minor injuries, the majority of the 78 passengers onboard escaped unharmed.
Airport operations were briefly suspended, but have since resumed, with emergency services promptly evacuating passengers, as detailed in the airport’s statement.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain the causes of the accident, occurring around 0100 GMT.
The aircraft is under the ownership of Transair, a private company, which Air Senegal had chartered for the flight. Neither Boeing nor Transair has provided comments on the incident.
This event adds to the mounting concerns regarding Boeing’s safety standards, occurring amidst a broader crisis for the manufacturer. In a separate incident in January, an unused door blew out of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max shortly after takeoff in the US.
