The Electoral Commission is set to kick off the limited voter registration process today, Tuesday, May 7, targeting first-time voters and individuals seeking to obtain a voter card.
Scheduled to run for 21 days until May 27, 2024, the exercise aims to register an estimated 623,000 first-time voters nationwide, according to Madam Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC.
Madam Mensa highlighted that registration centers will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with provisions made to accommodate potential registration numbers exceeding the initial projection. She emphasized that the commission is prepared to handle power outages, with generators rented for all district offices to ensure uninterrupted voter registration services.
In the event of power disruptions, the EC will switch to an “offline” mode, enabling manual registration of voters with their details stored on a pen drive. These details will later be transferred to the EC’s system once power is restored, ensuring a seamless registration process even during power challenges.
