Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, has voiced confidence that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s selection of him as his running mate for four consecutive elections was a sound decision.
Formerly the deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia served as the president’s running mate from 2008 to 2020.
In an interview with Africa Watch Magazine, Dr. Bawumia asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s choice of him has been vindicated, pointing to his performance since assuming office in the NPP government.
Highlighting his role in securing the party’s victories in 2016 and 2020, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that he met the criteria set by the president for a capable vice president.
“I believe the president has been justified in selecting me a record four times because of my contributions to our victories in 2016 and 2020, and my widely acknowledged performance as the best vice president in Ghana’s history,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Reflecting on his acceptance of the role of Vice President, Dr. Bawumia explained that he saw it as a divine opportunity to make a positive impact in Ghana. Motivated by the president’s vision and philosophy, he embraced the challenge despite the uncertainties of leaving his banking career for politics.
Driven by his belief in his capacity to contribute to Ghana’s development at the highest levels of government, Dr. Bawumia viewed the vice presidency as a platform to support the president’s vision and the NPP’s goals for the nation.
