John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has made a firm commitment to revisit the scandal involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah should he win the presidency.
In a statement released on Thursday, Mahama pledged, “If elected, my administration will initiate fresh investigations into the alleged corruption and malpractice surrounding the Cecelia Dapaah case.”
This declaration follows a recent development where the Attorney General’s office discouraged the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) from pursuing money laundering inquiries into Dapaah’s finances, citing insufficient grounds.
The Attorney General’s decision stemmed from the Special Prosecutor’s Office (OSP) request to EOCO to investigate potential money laundering activities related to over $1 million cash discovered at Dapaah’s residence. However, subsequent analysis revealed a lack of substantial evidence to support money laundering charges.
It was also noted that the OSP did not furnish EOCO with the complete findings of their joint investigation, leading to gaps in information crucial for further scrutiny.
Despite the Attorney General’s stance that there were no apparent corruption offenses linked to Dapaah, Mahama remains resolute in his determination to pursue accountability and transparency in governance, should he assume office.
