Ryan Garcia, fresh off his victory over Devin Haney, is facing controversy after testing positive for a banned substance.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) confirmed receiving notification from anti-doping body Vada of “adverse findings” in Garcia’s April tests.
ESPN reportedly obtained a leaked Vada letter indicating Garcia tested positive for ostarine, a muscle growth-enhancing SARM banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2008. The tests were taken before and after his April fight, but results came later.
Denying all wrongdoing, Garcia took to X to declare, “Everybody knows I don’t cheat… Never taken a steroid.” He has 10 days to request a B sample test.
The New York State Athletic Commission, responsible for the fight, is reviewing the matter with Vada. Whether the result against Haney will be overturned remains to be seen. Vada maintains its policy of not publicly discussing individual athlete results without permission.
