During a last-minute rally in Ejisu, Vice President Bawumia asserted that supporting independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi in the upcoming by-election would essentially be endorsing former President John Dramani Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Bawumia emphasized the NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, as the rightful choice, citing the government’s positive impact on Ejisu compared to the NDC era.
Bawumia highlighted the delicate balance of power in parliament, noting that backing an independent candidate could sway control to the NDC. He accused the NDC of covertly backing Aduomi, who served as a deputy minister under the NPP, urging voters to rally behind Boateng to continue the late John Kumah’s legacy.
President Akufo-Addo echoed Bawumia’s sentiments, expressing discontent with Aduomi’s allegations of election rigging and his criticism of the NPP. Akufo-Addo dismissed Aduomi’s claims of road infrastructure improvements during his tenure and emphasized the importance of maintaining NPP dominance in Ejisu.
Akufo-Addo appealed to voters for support, emphasizing the necessity of securing a majority in parliament to fulfill the government’s mandate. He underscored Boateng’s candidacy as pivotal to achieving this goal and pledged ministerial appointment for the winner of the by-election.
The president urged voters to take the by-election seriously, expressing his desire for Ejisu to remain loyal to the NPP.
