Attempted Rape: Mob Lynches Robber in Ankaful

Saltpond Ankaful, Central Region, was rocked by a tragedy on Monday, April 22nd, 2024. A suspected robber, Kobina Appiah Salasie (believed to be in his late 40s), was lynched by residents after a violent encounter.

Reports indicate Salasie broke into a residence in the early hours. Chased by residents, he climbed onto a building and entered the room of Prophetess Sarah Amoah, leader of the Reform Christian Church.

Amoah awoke to Salasie in her room and screamed for help. Neighbors responded, but Salasie threatened them with a machete, injuring four people. The enraged residents overpowered and lynched him.

Residents suspect Salasie might have been involved in other robberies before entering the prophetess’s room. This incident has fueled their plea for increased police protection due to a rise in crime.

Assembly Member Hon. Kwadwefo Kwesi Arhin confirmed the incident and expressed concern about the rise in robberies in the area. He recognized Salasie as a recently released ex-convict but doubted his involvement in armed robbery. Arhin urged caution and revealed the residents informed the police after the lynching.

Salasie’s family members are demanding a thorough investigation, denying his involvement in any robbery. The police are currently investigating the case. No arrests have been made so far.

The body of the deceased has been transported to the Saltpond Government Hospital Mortuary for autopsy. The autopsy results may shed light on the cause of death and potentially offer clues about the events leading up to the tragedy.

The residents’ call for increased police protection highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to tackling crime in the area. This may involve improved police presence, community policing initiatives, and addressing underlying social factors that contribute to crime.

The events in Ankaful serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of violent crime and the importance of community vigilance. While the frustration of residents is understandable, resorting to mob justice is never the answer. It’s crucial to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure safety and hold perpetrators accountable through the justice system.
