Police Apprehend Truck Driver in Connection with Train Mishap

The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody the operator of a Hyundai truck bearing registration number GS 9018 – 20, suspected of involvement in an accident with the recently imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway route.

During a trial run on Thursday, April 18, 2024, the newly introduced train from Poland encountered a collision.

According to police reports, initial investigations suggest that the accused driver deserted the vehicle on the railway track, leading to the unfortunate clash with the train.

“Ongoing police inquiries are actively pursuing leads,” stated the authorities.

The truck operator purportedly found himself in a predicament while transporting cement blocks, resulting in the vehicle becoming lodged on the tracks after failing to navigate a passage beneath a bridge.

In response to the incident, Minister of Railways Development Peter Amewu assured that efforts are underway to rectify the damages to the train, with engineers mobilized for the task.
