Electrician Jailed for Stealing ECG Cables in Klo-Agogo
Masaudu Fuseini, a 27-year-old electrician, received a one-month prison sentence for stealing cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Klo-Agogo.
Fuseini, arrested on March 25th, pleaded guilty to the charges. The Koforidua Circuit Court A, presided over by Judge Asare Anima, also imposed a fine of 12,000 Ghanaian cedis (GH¢) or a two-year default jail term.
Court Orders Cable Replacement
In addition to the sentence, Fuseini was ordered to replace the stolen cables valued at GH¢9,000. An ECG representative confirmed to the court that Fuseini had fulfilled this requirement.
Caught by Watchdog Committee
According to Prosecutor Elorm Arku Klaye, Fuseini, a resident of Nkurakan, was apprehended by a watchdog committee set up by the local Assembly member. They witnessed Fuseini cutting ECG cables in various parts of town. The committee informed the police, who later arrested Fuseini and recovered the stolen cables.
