Masters champion Jon Rahm is making waves again, this time calling for the LIV Golf League to adopt a traditional 72-hole format. He believes this change could be a turning point in the ongoing rift within professional golf.

Despite a strong showing at last week’s LIV Miami event, where he led his team to victory while finishing tied for fourth individually, Rahm is looking forward to defending his Masters title this week. Notably, the Masters will be the first tournament this year featuring all the top players, highlighting the current division in men’s golf.

Before joining LIV, Rahm was a vocal critic of their shorter 54-hole format. Interestingly, even after signing a massive contract, reportedly worth £450 million, he still pushes for a format change.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Rahm stated, “If there’s a way for LIV to go to 72 holes, I think it would significantly ease the current tensions. The closer LIV can align with existing formats, the better. Ideally, this could lead to some kind of unification, perhaps a world tour.”

He concluded by saying, “I might not be the only one feeling this way, but I wouldn’t mind returning to a 72-hole format.”
