Former President John Dramani Mahama, leading the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the upcoming elections, has pledged to rejuvenate Ghana’s economy if he secures victory. Speaking at Wisconsin International University College on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Mahama outlined his vision for a fresh era of economic prosperity under the next NDC administration.
He assured the audience of his commitment to addressing economic challenges comprehensively, promising vigorous efforts to stabilize the economy. Mahama emphasized the importance of integrating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education nationwide, contrasting with the current limited availability of such programs.
To enhance STEM education accessibility, Mahama proposed transforming outdated Science Resource Centers in various senior high schools into modern STEM facilities. He advocated for incorporating STEM components into all subjects, arguing that a holistic approach is essential for national development.
Regarding the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, Mahama outlined plans to mitigate challenges by constructing additional Community Day Senior High Schools, particularly in densely populated urban areas. He emphasized the need for dormitory blocks attached to existing E-blocks to accommodate students from outside communities, facilitating greater educational access.
Mahama pledged to utilize available school lands for expansion, addressing urban land acquisition challenges. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to revitalizing E-block community day schools, aiming to bridge educational disparities and provide equitable opportunities for all students.
