Building Momentum and Awareness
The Climate Ambassadors Programme has a two-pronged attack. First, it aims to build political momentum for strong adaptation strategies across Ghana. Second, it seeks to raise public awareness about climate change at all levels. This includes securing access to climate funding from both domestic and international sources.
A Diverse Team for a Complex Challenge
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently inaugurated a diverse team of seven climate ambassadors. These individuals come from various sectors, including traditional rulers, religious organizations (Christian and Muslim), security forces, local governments, and the Ghana Journalists Association.
The team boasts prominent figures like the Akwamuhene Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Badu, Christian Council General-Secretary Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, and Ghana Journalists Association General-Secretary Kofi Yeboah.
Ghana’s Commitment to Climate Action

Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, acting Executive Secretary of the EPA, emphasized the importance of collective action. He stressed that climate change is reshaping the global socio-economic landscape, and nations must prioritize adaptation strategies for sustainable development.
Dr. Krugu emphasized the widespread impact of climate change, citing droughts, floods, and rising temperatures. He declared it the biggest threat to achieving sustainable development goals and called for a unified approach to address it.
The NAP Coordinator, Dr. Antwi Boasiako Amoah, underscored the significance of the ambassador program. He described it as a vital tool for deploying a multifaceted approach to tackling the climate crisis. Dr. Amoah urged the ambassadors to collaborate effectively in mobilizing resources, both human and material, to support climate action, particularly adaptation efforts.
