The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) management has declared that the surplus water from the Weija Dam will soon start to leak.
According to GWCL, the start of the rainy season is causing the water level to progressively rise (letter dated March 7, 2024).
According to GWCL, failing to release the dam could lead to a collapse that could endanger lives and property.
The letter from GWCL mentioned that the spilling process will start slowly to minimize its impact on the downstream, even though it did not explicitly state when the exercise will begin.
The actual rate, however, would be determined by the water entering the dam, and the spill would keep happening as long as the water level kept rising.
Any inconveniences that might result from the spillage have been apologized for by GWCL.
