The President of Malta and his wife are returning to their home country with emblems of the Asante Kingdom which would indisputably be an aide-memoire of their unforgettable experience and visit to the kingdom.
His Excellency George William Vella and Her Excellency Miriam Vella on their maiden visit to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Saturday were gifted beautifully handcrafted kente fabrics.
They were in Ghana on a three-day state visit which ended on March 9, 2024.
During their visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi as part of their visit to the Ashanti Region on Saturday, the King and his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu gave the First Family the magnificent kente cloths.
Presenting the fabric to the President on behalf of His Majesty were the Paramount Chief of Bompata Traditional Council, Naa Effah Apenteng and Linguist Baffour Kantankrakyi.
Meanwhile, Lady Julia made the presentation of another piece to Her Excellency Vella.The couple was aided in cladding their respective fabrics the traditional way and took some pictures with the King and his wife.
The Maltese First Family was escorted to the Manhyia Palace by the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
Among the President’s entourage were Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, Secretary to the President of Malta, Ms Rosette Spiteri Cachia, Malta High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Jean Claud Galea Mallia and others.
