Morocco Sets Record with 16 Consecutive Wins

Story Highlights
  • Morocco wins 16 games in a row, setting a new international record
  • Finished World Cup qualifiers with 8 wins from 8 matches
  • AFCON 2025 kicks off in December, with Morocco hosting

Morocco’s national team has set a new international record with 16 straight victories, capping off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Congo in Rabat on Tuesday.

Youssef En-Nesyri scored the only goal in the 63rd minute, helping Morocco finish top of Group E with a perfect record of eight wins from eight matches—the only African team to achieve a 100% win rate in the qualifiers.

This latest victory saw Morocco surpass Spain’s record of 15 consecutive wins, achieved between June 2008 and June 2009.

The Atlas Lions last failed to win a match in March 2024, when they were held to a goalless draw by Mauritania in a friendly. Since then, they’ve won:

  • 7 World Cup qualifiers
  • 6 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
  • 3 international friendlies

The winning streak excludes matches by Morocco’s home-based B team, which won the African Nations Championship in Kenya in August.

Over their 19-month unbeaten run, Morocco scored 50 goals and conceded just 4.

For comparison, Spain’s 15-match streak began with a 3-0 win over Russia in the Euro 2008 semi-finals, and ended with a 2-0 win over South Africa in the 2009 Confederations Cup group stage. Their run was halted by a semi-final loss to the USA, despite scoring 39 goals and conceding only two.

Morocco has yet to confirm friendly matches for the November international break, but will kick off their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign as hosts on December 21, opening the tournament against Comoros.
