Ghana Faces Challenges in Power Grid Management
- The issues raised by GRIDCo regarding the Electricity Company of Ghana's (ECG) failure to comply with load-shedding instructions are not new.
- He believes GRIDCo's letter serves to document ECG's disregard for established plans and highlight the need for the Minister's intervention.
- He further expressed concern that ECG's lack of cooperation presents a challenge for regulators and could potentially harm the power grid infrastructure
The Executive Director of the Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP), Ben Boakye, has expressed concerns about the recent letter sent by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to the Minister of Energy.
According to Mr. Boakye, the issues raised by GRIDCo regarding the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) failure to comply with load-shedding instructions are not new.
He believes GRIDCo’s letter serves to document ECG’s disregard for established plans and highlight the need for the Minister’s intervention.
“These are well-known problems within the power sector,” Mr. Boakye said. “GRIDCo is essentially requesting the Minister to hold all parties accountable and ensure adherence to the plan.”
He further expressed concern that ECG’s lack of cooperation presents a challenge for regulators and could potentially harm the power grid infrastructure.
“ECG’s behavior suggests a lack of willingness to be governed,” Mr. Boakye remarked. “Regulations and directives exist to protect the grid, yet ECG seems hesitant to comply. The potential consequences for our expensive infrastructure are concerning.”
