In an interview with Kumasi.city, some the fire victims stated that they received a call from other colleagues claiming that a terrible fire had destroyed the market. When they arrived, they discovered that the report was accurate, but they were unaware of the cause.
“I am a food vendor, and when I arrived, none of my items could be taken with me. I am begging the government to help me because I am a widow who applied for a loan to start the business. “This is my sole means of making ends meet,” exclaimed a trader.
“I deal with second-hand clothing but when I came I couldn’t pick just a single of them.”
Addressing Kumasi.city after dousing the fire, the Okomfo Anokye District Fire Commander, DO III Ben Boadu said it took three fire tenders to quench the flames.
He mentioned that they raced to the scene after receiving a distress call from some traders at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024.
“After gaining complete access to the area, we overcame access issues and extinguished the raging fire. It took my men roughly five hours to stop the fire.”
He mentioned that no casualties were reported during the procedure.
Regarding delayance, DO III Ben Boadu revealed that “some boys” attacked him and his team.
“Five of the boys were arrested after we were attacked by some of them for being late. Thanks to the assistance of volunteers. We are going to pursue this case to the core.”
