Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has donated relief supplies to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support communities affected by recent floods.

The bank said the contribution forms part of its corporate social responsibility programme and is intended to help families facing immediate difficulties after the flooding.

Items presented to NADMO included bags of rice and sugar, student mattresses, mosquito nets, mosquito sprays, blankets and other supplies. CBG said it consulted NADMO before the donation so that the support would reflect needs identified by the disaster management agency.

CBG Managing Director Dr Naomi Wolali Kwetey said the bank regarded assistance to communities where it operates as part of its responsibility, particularly during emergencies. She said the donation was intended to ease some of the challenges confronting affected households following heavy rainfall.

Dr Kwetey added that CBG planned to continue supporting initiatives aimed at disaster preparedness and improving the country’s resilience to future emergencies.

Receiving the items, NADMO Director-General Major Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd) called for sustained private-sector backing for disaster management work. He said preparedness and preventive action should receive greater attention, rather than efforts being concentrated only on response after a disaster has occurred.

He appealed for continued collaboration between CBG and NADMO, saying such partnerships could help efforts to keep communities safe.

The donation comes as flood-affected communities continue recovery efforts. NADMO has encouraged corporate organisations to complement public disaster-management and humanitarian assistance initiatives.
